U.S. Disabled Athletes Fund, Inc. (BlazeSports) In 1997, following completion of the work associated with the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games, USDAF, in partnership with the Georgia Recreation and Park Association, introduced BlazeSports Georgia.
Designed as a model suitable for national replication, this community-based sports and recreation program for youth and adults with physical disability was introduced through local recreation providers across Georgia. The program met early success and quickly grew to include community-based instructional programs; week end sports training clinics for athletes and coaches; state and regional competitions; junior teams in wheelchair basketball, swimming and track and field; three summer camps; and an annual conference.
BlazeSports Georgia is funded in large part by a grant from the State of Georgia and annually serves more than 4000 children and adults. Philanthropic gifts, sponsorships, donations and fees are other important funding sources.
