Rockdale Cares, Inc Rockdale Cares, Inc. was established and incorporated in 1978 by families and friends of Rockdale County mentally challenged citizens. We are a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization and we are sales tax exempt. Donations are tax deductible. Our organization is operated through a volunteer board of community and business associates. Our funding depends on donations, our one major fund raiser, and the few grants we are able to secure.
Since our inception, we have attempted to fill the service gaps in Rockdale County. Through our advocacy efforts the state agreed to fund day training and a work activity center which opened in 1979. This program initially opened in surplus school space and our organization soon realized this was not suitable for training center needs. We applied for and received a SBA loan which paid for land and construction of a 11,200 SF
building located off Parker Road on Davis Drive.

The service provider we had since 1979 relocated to another county in 1999 thus allowing us to make major renovations to our building. Public forums dictated how the newly remodeled building would be used. The priorities were an adult day program again in Rockdale County and recreational and social activities for our special citizens. Renovations were completed in March, 2001 and in April, 2001 "Our Place" officially opened as a day program and workshop operated by United Cerebral Palsy. They currently serve 65 plus individuals on a daily basis. "Our Place" located at 875 Davis Drive is also the site of bi-monthly social dinner/dances for our special citizens. The themed parties serve approximately 120 to 150 people. We always provide a Disc Jockey and the special population has a fantastic time dancing and socializing. In conjunction with the Senior Services Center we also provide Shuffleboard twice a month. Contact us for information on this schedule. We have a computer lab and are in the process of securing a green house for therapeutic recreation. The green house and the computer lab will be available to all mentally challenged individuals in our area. Information on these events will be published as soon as available. Rockdale Cares is also in the planning stage of preparing to build a Respite Care Home to allow families some temporary relief from the constant care of their challenged loved one. There are no facilities for this service anywhere near our area and families have a desperate need for this program. Information will be published as soon as it is available. We are currently providing Respite Care from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. one Saturday per month at "Our Place". You may contact us for information on this service. We own two group homes that are used to house mentally challenged individuals. One houses five adult males and the other houses four adult females. Rockdale Cares continually strives to improve lives of our special needs citizens and their families. We advocate for these with our local and state politicians and constantly research training and enrichment programs that will benefit this population. MISSION STATEMENT
